Non OECD ECAs growing in market share

ECA Watch, Paris, August 12, 2005

Export credit agencies from non-OECD countries such as China, India, Brazil, South Africa and even Iran are increasingly poping up in the news as financiers of projects around the world.

The Berne Union in its 2005 Yearbook reported that its 54 members had underwritten USD $623B in Export Credit Insurance and Direct Lending and another USD $69B in investment insurance in 2003. Of this total, the 29 OECD member ECAs reported USD $87B in Export Credit Insurance and Direct Lending underwritten in 2003, or only 14% of total export credit coverage!
