NEXI is the state-owned Japanese ECA created in 2001

NEXI mainly provides various types of insurance to cover political and commercial risks involved in the business or the overseas transactions, such as export, import, investment and financing, which private insurance cannot cover. It was newly created in 2001, following the trade and investment insurance program established in 1950 as part of its export promotion policy.

Who is involved

NEXI is a 100% state-owned incorporated administrative agency, whose competent authority is the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

Dodgy deals associated with NEXI

Alongside JBIC, NEXI is also involved in the Coral Bay Nickel Processing Plant Project in the Philippines, the Taganito Nickel Processing Plant Project in the Philippines, and the Sakhalin I and II Oil and Gas Development Project in Russia.
