Euronatura

EURONATURA - Center for Environmental Law and Sustainable Development is a non-profit and non-governmental organization funded in 1997 and currently active in three areas: Climate; Forest History and Policies; Exports, Environment and Human Rights.

In 2002, Euronatura joined the ECA-Watch Network, and since then monitors the activity of the Portuguese ECA, COSEC. In the past years, Euronatura has advocated for increasing the level of transparency relating COSEC’s and DGTF’s (Directorate General of Treasury and Finance) activities. Both institutions, which are part of the Ministry of Finance, play a leading role in the decision-making process regarding project support. This advocacy work is framed in the ECA-Ibéria Campaign and has been carried out with the collaboration of other civil society organisations in Portugal and developing countries. In January 2014, Euronatura welcomed a modest improvement on COSEC’s level of transparency. In particular, for the first time in the last three years, COSEC published in its website a list of the projects supported with the categories A and B, following the Common Approaches for officially supported export credits and environmental and social due diligence of the OECD.

In addition to the activities in Portugal,,the ECA-Ibéria Campaign contributes to the advocacy work designed by the ECA-Watch Network in order to achieve improvements as regards EU and OECD recommendations concerning export credits with official support.
